The Leprosy Mission Australia
- Aug 28, 2024
Praise God! It was an exciting day in early July when the first patients moved into the newly built Self-Care Unit. Seven people made their way from the hospital wards along the path to continue their journey of healing. More people will make their way here as they progress through treatment. But for these seven, this marks an important turning point in their lives.
The new Self-Care Unit will be the place from which they will re-build their lives. Here they will receive training to look after their wounds, care for ulcers, injured hands and feet, and amputated limbs. They will receive counselling to restore dignity and enable them to see a future in which they can support themselves, their families, and participate fully in their community.
The new facility has greater disability access, more comfortable rooms, and will be a safe place for women and men to receive care.
Your ongoing prayers and support is a testament to the commitment of The Leprosy Mission to provide the best possible care, from diagnosis to being cured and beyond. With your unwavering compassion and care, this new Self-Care Unit will provide comfort and dignity to people re-learning how to do everyday tasks, building skills which will help prevent further damage and disability.
This month a team from around Australia are visiting Nepal. While there, the Your Impact Adventure 2024 team will visit the Self-Care Unit, meet the patients and staff and witness for themselves the impact people like you have made in the lives of people affected by leprosy, disability, and poverty.
Pray the new Self-Care Unit will provide a caring, safe, and supportive environment for patients to continue healing and learning so that they can return home confident in their ability to care for themselves.
Pray for staff and patients to build good relationships quickly to maximise the time they have together. Give thanks for opportunities for supporters to see first-hand the wonderful work of The Leprosy Mission in Nepal, and the impact of your prayers and support.
Your kind-hearted support is needed to continue the compassionate care that brings dignity and hope to people recovering from leprosy in the Self-Care Unit.
