Leprosy is like a thief – it steals, kills, destroys.

For Ranjana it stole her health and her dignity. It killed her sense of belonging and destroyed her hope.

Clawed hands meant Ranjana couldn’t hold a pen. It meant taking time off school looking for treatment.

Although she was treated with Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT), she experienced weakness in her right thumb and found that she had a leprosy relapse.

Ranjana’s clawed fingers were severely burnt and infected.

She was terrified that doctors would have to amputate them. That’s what her local hospital told her.

ranjanaBut you can help stop this happening to another child affected by leprosy.

When you provide an education for young people like Ranjana, it can empower them. You can help lift them out of a lifetime of poverty and rejection.

Children’s Empowerment through Education & Development (CEED) is a way you can bring change to children affected by leprosy. It opens possibilities and opportunities for them. It gives back the social standing that the stigma of leprosy can steal.

Thankfully at Anandaban Hospital, Ranjana was told her fingers could be saved… She would not need amputation. Imagine the relief!

Ranjana is so happy with the surgery. She is now able to straighten her fingers!

Not only is her independence restored, Ranjana can hold a pen and looks forward to finishing her studies.

And with the blessing of a scholarship, she is so excited to continue her education and looking forward to a bright future!

No child affected by leprosy should be left behind and denied the opportunity to live a full life.

How will your gift help?

You can help children receive an education and finish their studies. Your gift provides practical help to buy uniforms, school supplies and sometimes food.

Stigma, rejection or disability often mean that children are kept out of school.

With no education and limited opportunities, children affected by leprosy could face a lifetime of poverty and rejection.

Please don’t let a child miss out on an education!
