We want to see leprosy defeated and lives transformed. To do that, we are committed to three big goals: breaking the transmission of leprosy, bringing an end to disability caused by leprosy, and eliminating the stigma and discrimination that has been associated with the disease for 4,000 years.
And we want to see this soon. Incredible progress has been made in medicine and technology to detect leprosy and treat it. In some countries, it has already been defeated. We have to keep up the momentum, especially reaching into remote and impoverished areas.
We are seeing amazing progress in treatment regimes, including 3D printing of tailored orthotics for people with limb damage.
We train people affected by leprosy in self-care and help them find employment and establish livelihoods. And we educate communities about what leprosy really is, speaking out against myths and prejudices.
We are working to address the 99 outstanding laws that discriminate against people around the world. We want a world of fairness, equity and opportunity for all.
Our mission is to see this job done within our lifetime.
