I said to God,

"If you save me, I am in your hands.
If I die, then I am also in your hands."

When the landslide came, Kamala had nowhere to go.

She was living independently at the Self-Care Unit Australians like you helped build at Anandaban Hospital in Nepal, through The Leprosy Mission.

Kamala was waiting to be fitted with a prosthetic to replace the leg that leprosy had taken.

Then the rain came.

More than 300mm in less than 24 hours.

The hillside above the Self-Care Unit couldn’t absorb it, and started sliding down. Kamala was trapped:

"I could hear the landslide coming from all directions.
It was like a river through the hills. There was continuous noise of trees falling, and getting swept away by the landslide. Some went right past the window.
I was constantly worried the Self-Care Unit would be swept away too.”

Your help is needed urgently to help restore Self-Care Unit services after the landslide.

PLEASE DONATE NOW!

Across Nepal, floods and landslides, like the one that hit our Self-Care Unit, took more than 200 lives. Kamala feared for her life too:

"I couldn't run away - where would I go?
There was landslide coming from every side. There was no escape, I had nowhere to go.
I just sat there and prayed.”

The Unit stood strong!

The deep foundations laid 12 months ago held it firm against the might of the landslide. Now the mud and debris needs to be cleared away. Structural integrity checked.

But the surrounding landscape has changed forever!

Please  DONATE NOW  to support this essential work!

First, we must complete the engineers’ assessment to decide what’s next before we can welcome leprosy patients back to the Self-Care Unit!

PRIORITY ACTION LIST:

- determine if ground and building is stable
- repair SCU or relocate and rebuild to a more stable site
- replace damaged and destroyed furniture

If we can repair the SCU on the current site, then we need to rebuild storage areas, build new accessible pathways, re-do floors and walls, put in new windows and restore the security system.

You know best how you have been blessed to help. Please consider an emergency donation of:

- $50 can help restore Self-Care Unit services.

- $100 can help replace furniture and restock essential supplies.

- $300 can cover the full cost for a leprosy patient’s stay at the Self-Care Unit at Anandaban. This provides the final stages of rehabilitation, training or prosthetic, enabling the person you help to return to their families newly equipped for life!.

In a ‘normal’ year, The Leprosy Mission aims support 260 leprosy patients through the Unit.

"...everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

The rain cam down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house;"

yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."

Matthew 7:24-25
