For many Aussies, Indonesia means Bali. A favourite holiday destination with welcoming people, fabulous food, and stunning scenery.

Yet did you know that Indonesia has the third highest incidence of leprosy in the world?

And one in 10 of these people are children, like Sarah.

This number is way higher than what the World Health Organisation says is acceptable... because it shows the disease is still spreading.

Too many people are being diagnosed after severe, lifelong disability has already set in. Including children... their tiny bodies damaged when their lives have only just begun...

Your gift of LOVE today protects children like Sarah with early diagnosis and treatment, before it's too late:

Learn the signs for early detection
Offer fast, effective treatment
Voice facts to end the fear
Expand essential leprosy care

Plus, with an Australian Government 5:1 grant, your tax-deductible donation can increase your personal impact FIVE TIMES*!

HERE'S MY 5:1 GIFT TO PROTECT CHILDREN

How fear keeps leprosy alive

Fear of getting 'found out'. Fear of being seen as cursed. Fear of what it means for your family and your future.

All these fears stop people with leprosy seeking help.

So the disease is passed on to others, while steadily damaging your own body.

Sarah's doctor, Dr Mustakim, knows this all too well. He shares:

"I sometimes see people come to this health centre and they already have a disability caused by leprosy... it's sad to see this.

I really want people to get diagnosed in the early stages of their infection... so that I can treat and cure them, and so they can have a life free from disability."

That's why it's critical we work together to banish the fear, the lies, the hate...

And here's how your gift of LOVE today will do just that!

...because when leprosy is seen as any other treatable health problem, the fear of getting help starts to fade.

There's no time to lose! Every day of delay means a greater risk of disability for child like Sarah.

So if you can, please give by Good Friday, 3 April. Thank you!

HERE'S MY GIFT OF  LOVE

Why your  LOVE  is needed

You can see this love already at work in Sarah's life.

When here mum was first told Sarah had leprosy, she was very afraid:

"I was shocked and I cried. I asked 'Why? Why did leprosy come to my daughter?'

But later on, I could accept the condition because I knew that there is medicine and that it can be cured."

Your gift of LOVE raises awareness of leprosy to take away fears - and protect against needless lifelong disability!

Because Sarah was blessed to be found and treated early, it's likely she won't suffer permanent disability.

However, too many children in Indonesia remain in danger.

That is why your 5:1 action by Good Friday 3 April is so important.

Remember, whatever you choose to give, the 5:1 Australian Government Grant allows you to give with FIVE TIMES the impact* of your actual donation... to keep even more children safe!

HERE'S MY EASTER GIFT OF  LOVE

Your partner in  LOVE

Your love is passed on to children like Sarah through our partners in Indonesia, NLR. NLR stands for 'No Leprosy Remains' —  the vision you're working towards together.

With your support for this frontline team, you're helping reach a future of ZERO leprosy transmission, ZERO new disability, and ZERO discrimination. Thank you!

*The Australian government 5:1 grant can be explained in this way:

Every donation you make to this project will be combined with funding from the Australian Government to reach more people. The Leprosy Mission has committed to contribute $1 for every $5 received from the Australian government. Your donation will allow us to extend our programs.

The Leprosy Friendly Village (Desaku) Project and The Urban Leprosy (Kotaku) Project are supported by the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP). Thanks to ANCP, these projects are able to help improve the well-being of people affected by leprosy and disability in Indonesia.

Please note: Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible. Due to added security measures, donations below $10 can no longer be processed online. To make a gift $9 or less, please call us on 1800 LEPROSY (1800 537 767).
