Trike Mini Vans

Trike mini vans will allow health workers to get to villages more efficiently. They will enable them to provide early diagnosis and effective treatment in hard-to-reach communities. Trikes will be driven by ex-leprosy patients, including women.

Government services are limited, and sometimes non-existent in remote areas. There is inadequate diagnosis of leprosy cases in communities of Northern Nigeria. Diagnosis of leprosy in women and children is especially missed due to negative culture, absence of integrated unobtrusive women and child friendly leprosy services, and geographically hard to reach communities.

In addition, Leprosy Champions in communities lack a role in active case finding. These result in uninterrupted transmission of leprosy, leading to disabilities, social exclusion, and poor mental health among patients.

Small equipped vehicles can get around villages and deliver integrated leprosy services effectively.

Using minivans to get integrated diagnostic and treatment services to communities has proven successful. There is a need for inexpensive units of tricycles reaching more people in hard-to-reach communities using the same approach.

With your support, we have the potential to scale up this project in conjunction with other leprosy organisations.

Your gift will help provide leprosy information to community members, diagnosis, and treatment services, including mental health integration to services.

The trike vans can be sustainably serviced and operated by ex-leprosy patients, including women. Trikes can be easily operated but also aesthetic enough to attract women and children.
