Mobile Clinics
Oecusse in Timor-Leste has poor transport options making travel difficult for health staff. Providing a Landcruiser has potential for conversion to a mobile clinic. This means that Leprosy treatment can be delivered directly to patients in their local area.
In July 2024 we start a new 5-year leprosy transmission project in Oecusse Municipality, Timor-Leste.
Government resources are very limited. Relying on government resources will mean that the next phase of the leprosy project in Oecusse will be severely constrained as there are few government vehicles to service the villages and there is no public transport.
The nature of this project is that health staff need to move around villages to assess communities for skin diseases, especially leprosy. The terrain is very difficult with few roads. A hardy, reliable vehicle is required to do that job.
A Landcruiser is recommended as a suitable vehicle and has potential to be converted to a mobile clinic.
With your support, we will purchase two Landcruisers for the team in Timor-Leste. Your gift will enable health staff to assess and treat all leprosy cases in Oecusse over the next 5 years. Your support makes this transmission intervention target achievable.
The vehicle is likely to be purchased in either Dili or Kupang and driven to Oecusse. The costs include registration and safety checks. Purchase of the vehicle will mean that the plan to assess and treat all leprosy cases in Oecusse in the next 5 years is achievable.
In addition to this, we are planning to provide one vehicle for the health staff with our partner NLF in Nepal.
We look forward to sharing with you the impact God makes through you on the lives of people with leprosy.
