One third of all new leprosy cases in PNG are children.
Leprosy devastates lives in Papua New Guinea. Worse still, one third of all new cases are children, like Thresia.
Threisa is just 11 years-old. She was diagnosed with leprosy when she was eight.
The sad thing is, leprosy is only mildly contagious… but Thresia lives in conditions that encourage the spread of leprosy. A tin shack is her home.
Thresia already has an ulcer on her foot due to nerve damage from leprosy. It causes her to limp. If left untreated, Thresia is at risk of losing her whole foot by amputation.
Thresia’s stopped going to school because she’s so afraid of being teased.
Instead, she helps her father. He is a fisherman. After he catches his fish early in the day, Thresia walks around her village selling the catch.
Imagine doing limping with your load of fish in the searing heat. While struggling with an open ulcer on your foot… and missing out on your education.
Miracles of healing don’t always have to be instantaneous. By God’s grace and through your support, Jesus works miracles of healing through the provision of Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT) and other treatments for people affected by leprosy.
Thresia is beautiful young girl with a big, gorgeous smile. Smart, with heaps of potential. She could be anything she wants with the right support.
