World Leprosy Sunday 2020 – Mareeba, QLD
25 January, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Imagine if law and custom discriminate against you because you have a disease!
People affected by leprosy in India don’t have to imagine that — it’s their reality. In India over one million people are living with the physical and emotional scars of leprosy.
The prejudice surrounding the disease means many have been outcast. By their families, communities, schools and workplaces. Over 100 laws around India discriminate against people affected by leprosy.
Meet John Oa
Imagine if like the 10 men with leprosy, you felt out you were out of options. And so you stopped your medical treatment to work and educate your children. This was what John’s brother Eddie faced.
This is why John Oa is passionate to help support people affected by leprosy in his home village. John’s family have experienced what it is like to live with leprosy and have no good choices. John works hard to support them, and other people affected by leprosy –a disease which is back on the rise in PNG.
John’s passion, like yours, is to make sure no one else has to face what his brother faced.
Come meet John Oa from Papua New Guinea. He’ll share the challenges they face in communities across PNG.
