Imagine if law and custom discriminate against you because you have a disease! People affected by leprosy in India don’t have to imagine that — it’s their reality. In India over one million people are living with the physical and emotional scars of leprosy.
The prejudice surrounding the disease means many have been outcast. By their families, communities, schools and workplaces.Over 100 laws around India discriminate against people affected by leprosy.

Dr Mary Verghese is Executive Director of The Leprosy Mission Trust India. She is well aware of the suffering these laws cause. Like you, she wants them overturned. So no one with leprosy has to stand at a distance from their community.Come meet Dr Mary Verghese. She’ll update you on the situation people affected by leprosy still face in India. The plans to overturn it, and how you can help!
