Children like Munna need your urgent and practical support
In Nepal there are over 250,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The result has been over 1,600 deaths. While these are horrible statistics what is more upsetting is the impact this is having on families with a loved one with leprosy.
It is tragic enough that they have someone dear to them with leprosy but because of COVID-19 for many of these families the impact is even greater.
The bread winner may have lost their job. Public transport has been shut down making travelling to get medical care almost impossible, especially if you have no income.
For many families this is not only a long trip but it is also costly for them. 12 year old Munna’s family lives 6 to 7 hours from the hospital. He was diagnosed with leprosy and he developed ulcers. As a result he was in desperate need of an ulcer care pack.
Leprosy often leads to nerve damage and can cause the loss of feeling to eye lids, fingers and toes. When you can’t feel pain – scratches, blisters, cuts or burns are likely to go unnoticed. They can lead to infected ulcers and further damage. Without treatment, this may result in severely damaged fingers or toes, and possibly may even require amputation.
Patients at Anandaban Hospital like young Munna are given treatments for their ulcers. They are given an ulcer self-care pack and are taught how to care for their hands and feet so the ulcers don’t get worse.
Since the pandemic, the hospital is in urgent need of supplies. An ulcer self-care pack can provide leprosy patients with urgently needed everyday items like soap, bandages, a wash tub, oils and creams to moisturise and maintain healthy skin.
Your gift of $30 could provide an Ulcer Self-Care pack for a patient at Anandaban Hospital so they are protected from ulcers that can lead to permanent disability if left untreated.
Your gift of $80 could help provide Ulcer Self-Care treatment and training.
Or your incredible contribution of $360 could help provide a Cure Package which provides hospital care and an Ulcer Self-Care Pack so hospital staff can treat the disease before it causes permanent disability and a life of isolation.
