Thanks Friend, To your kindness people like Sunil are able to continue their education throughout treatment.

Now 15, Sunil found out he had leprosy at just 7 years of age. His mother and aunt also had leprosy. Sunil was very malnourished and suffering with Type II Leprosy Reaction when he was bought to The Leprosy Mission Hospital.

He was admitted for treatment for two years. Fortunately, his mother was able to stay with him at the hospital and help out around the hospital where she could.

Thanks to your kindness, people like Sunil are able to continue their education throughout treatment. Sunil was able to go to a nearby school and he has now passed the eighth class.

After some leprosy awareness-raising at the school, including staff and children, the children are much kinder to Sunil. The obvious signs of type II reaction, including red tinted skin and swollen face due to the steroid medication he was on, initially made the children avoid him.But he enjoys school and has a particular talent for times tables - and can even recite his 39 times table! He also enjoys drawing.

When Sunil tested COVID positive, he was sent to the COVID Care Centre for management. and then went into home isolation according to the local protocol. During the course of COVID, he kept recovering and finally felt fine after the quarantine period.

Sunil is so thankful that even though some of his ‘TLM family’ are across the other side of the world, they ensure The Leprosy Mission Trust India frontline team are there for him and his mother.

Because of your kindness, people like Sunil are cured of leprosy AND restored from COVID! Sunil’s dreams of becoming a teacher or a doctor in the future are much more possible now. Thank you for your generous heart.

The Leprosy Mission seeks to bring about transformation; breaking the chains of leprosy, empowering people to attain healing, dignity, and life in all its fullness.

We are targeting a Triple Zero Leprosy strategy — Zero Leprosy Transmission, Zero Leprosy Disability, and Zero Leprosy Discrimination. We are working hard with our international project partners, and international government organisations, to make leprosy transmission a thing of the past by 2035.
