MDT treatment has been delayed by COVID-19. Your donation by June 30 is matched with a 5:1 grant to help people with leprosy.

COVID-19 has had a devastating effect for the treatment of leprosy in Nigeria. It has restricted your Leprosy Mission teams from reaching people in remote areas. Making things worse, a shortage of Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT) means people are missing out on the treatment they need.
We must act quickly right now to protect people with leprosy, like David, who are at-risk of suffering reaction and complications.

David was treated as a slave. He had to cook and clean for his ‘master’ while also selling hand-cloths. After 10 years of suffering like this, David refused and was banished, with none of the money he was owed for his work.

Then, he contracted leprosy. He suffered nodules all over his face and arms and hands, causing horrible swelling which he says made him unsightly.

If not for MDT, his suffering would have no end.

David was told he had an evil spirit. He was tricked by con men into being a beggar. He lost confidence in himself.

This is the injustice faced by people with untreated leprosy. This is the horror your kindness now can prevent.

Your action today through The Leprosy Mission will go to the remote area of Zamfara state in Nigeria. This is a difficult area where disadvantage gets piled on disadvantage.

Your help will be put into action to:

  1. Identify people who are suffering leprosy, and not receiving treatment.
  2. Use newly re-opened supply lines to get MDT to the people most in need.
  3. Provide wheelchairs, prosthetics and reconstructive surgery for those disabled or disfigured by leprosy.
  4. Raise community awareness about leprosy to reduce discrimination, transmission and disability.
  5. Treat all people suffering leprosy with the acceptance, kindness and love we see in the example of Jesus – no strings attached.
