Thanks to you Aboubacar can heal and earn an income

Thanks to you, Aboubacar is in a self-help group, and was given a small business grant and protective shoes. He has been able to heal his sores and ulcers, and earn an income for himself and his wife.

Aboubacar was a butcher. When he was only 15, nodules grew on his face. He had frequent fevers and sickness. When this happened, people refused to buy from him. He was forced to stop working. He slowly lost feeling in his hands and feet. Because of this, horrible ulcers developed and became so bad, they deformed his hands.

Then Aboubacar joined a Leprosy Mission Self Help Group. He was trained, and given a grant to start his own small business. He now works looking after livestock, and can take care of himself and his wife. He was also educated and given a gift of protective shoes. He is able to take care of his feet and avoid more horrific ulcers.

However, Aboubacar’s struggle with leprosy is not over.

“I still face stigma. Today, I was in a public minibus and a man refused to get on because he saw I had leprosy. Truly it made me very sad.”

But thanks to you, life can improve for Aboubacar and people like him. They can protect themselves and find work because you support people affected by leprosy.

“Thank you so much for your help. May God continue to bless you for what you have done for me.”

You can help someone else like Aboubacar by giving a life-changing Gift of Love. You can help them overcome the stigma and effects of leprosy and disability.

The Leprosy Mission seeks to bring about transformation; breaking the chains of leprosy, empowering people to attain healing, dignity, and life in all its fullness.

We are targeting a Triple Zero Leprosy strategy — Zero Leprosy Transmission, Zero Leprosy Disability, and Zero Leprosy Discrimination. We are working hard with our international project partners, and international government organisations, to make leprosy transmission a thing of the past by 2035.
