Weaving a wonderful life

Abdus is a successful producer for HEED Handicrafts. He’s been working with HEED Handicrafts in its handloom sector as a weaver for 25 years. He started work when he was 30 years old. The ECOTA Fair Trade Forum at the World Fair Trade Day a number of years ago awarded Abdus as the “best producer”. The award was given in the presence of the State Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives of Bangladesh.

Abdus’s wife also works in HEED’s handloom section as a spinner. Their daughter, Amena, studied up to class four before joining HEED Handicrafts garments section as a trainee too! They have two other daughters and a son, who is studying in class nine. They have a very happy family life through HEED Handicrafts activities. When Amena got married recently they celebrated the wedding with HEED Handicrafts staff. They are very thankful to HEED Handicrafts.

Their work is very popular—you can buy their woven pencil case. It’s one of the most popular items selling in The Leprosy Mission Australia shop.

The Leprosy Mission seeks to bring about transformation; breaking the chains of leprosy, empowering people to attain healing, dignity, and life in all its fullness.

We are targeting a Triple Zero Leprosy strategy — Zero Leprosy Transmission, Zero Leprosy Disability, and Zero Leprosy Discrimination. We are working hard with our international project partners, and international government organisations, to make leprosy transmission a thing of the past by 2035.
