As a non profit organization, TLM depends greatly on the gifts and legacies it receives. If we are to reach our vision of "a world without leprosy" the ongoing support of caring donors is vital. Please help by nominating TLM as a beneficiary on your will.
Why prepare a Will?
Preparing a Will means that when the time comes, your estate- that is, everything you own- can be distributed in accordance with your wishes. About 90 per cent of Australians die intestate, meaning without a Will. That means their assets are left in the hands of State authorities who then make decisions about the distribution of those assets. A Will is easy to prepare. Everyone over the age of 18 should have one- and keep it updated with any change of circumstances (e.g. marriage or children). Solicitors or trustee companies will advise on how best to prepare your Will. Fees for the service where charged, are usually quite low.
Who should benefit?
The members of your immediate family are the first to be considered – your spouse and your children. If you are unmarried, you may wish to nominate your parents or siblings as direct beneficiaries. Then, you may decide to include friends or organisations.
After having made suitable provision for family members, leaving a portion of your estate to a worthy organization (a Residual Bequest) reflects your understanding of the needs which exist in the wider community.
Where there are no existing family members, an entire estate may be left to an institution or charitable advance for the distribution of your estate by preparing a Will.
Including TLMA in your Will
As a not-for-profit organisation, TLM depends greatly on the gifts and legacies it receives.
If we are to reach our vision of ‘A World without Leprosy’ the ongoing support of caring donors is vital. Please help by nominating TLM as a beneficiary in your Will.
To leave a bequest after providing for others, the wording should read:
“I give the residue of my estate to The Leprosy Mission Australia of 37-39 Ellingworth Parade, Box Hill, Victoria, for its charitable purposes. I further direct that the receipt of the Honorary Treasurer or other proper officer of The Leprosy Mission for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said bequest”.
If you want to provide for TLMA in your Will or you would like to make a donation, we would love to hear from you. Thank you.
If you would like further information on our bequest program please write to the Leprosy Mission Australia at PO Box 293 Box Hill, Victoria 3128 or call our National Office on 1800 617 679.
