For people affected by leprosy, medical cure alone is not always sufficient; most times it carries a heavy financial, social and vocational burden.
Everyone needs to work and make a living, but the stigma of leprosy causes such far-reaching social exclusion that many people affected by the disease are left without work and an income. They wonder how they’ll survive when facing the rejection of their family and their place of work. Thankfully their contact with The Leprosy Mission (TLM) can open up Vocational Training options.
Training can take anything from six months to two years, depending on the trade chosen, and there are a whole range of choices available: electrician, auto electrician, refrigeration, motor mechanic, diesel mechanic, radio and television repairs, computer courses, tailoring/sewing, handcrafts, small business management, and so on.
The goal of each Vocational Training Centre is to help the students believe their lives can be useful, meaningful and productive, help them develop good working practices and accustom them to working a full day and to provide equal opportunities in the workplace.
Vocational Training Centres are places of excitement, transformation and new life!
